New Co-op Mode Coming to Team Fortress 2

Earlier this week, rumors started flowing throughout the internet that Team Fortress 2 would be adding a brand new robot faction to its roster. The possibility of robotic versions of all our favorite Team Fortress 2 characters was certainly an intriguing prospect. However, the class-based shooter has other plans in mind for these robots. Valve has now announced that it will be adding a cooperative game mode named Mann vs. Machine.

The speculators did hit one nail on the head- the game mode will featuring an opposing army of robots that is partially made up of robotic variations of the normal human classes. So, the Sniper has become Sydney Sniper who, “Shoots Jarate-coated darts”. The Medic has turned into an Uber Medic who simply, “Ubers like a maniac.”

The game mode will also offer new takes on the classic classes for the A.I. controlled faction. For example, it has the bowman who is, “deadly accurate and quick on the draw.” He also seems to feature a bow and arrow as a weapon. He seems to be a weaker version of the Sydney Sniper. The game also has the Heavyweight Champ, a bot that tries to primarily beat the tar out of you. The website says that he, “doesn’t need weapons to rough you up”, and he, “attacks in large groups”.

The game mode is essentially a horde-like mode. You and five of your friends will be dropped into 1 of several different maps and be forced to fight off wave after wave of angry robots trying to plant a bomb. The game will also allow for your team, the mercs, to upgrade abilities and weapons.

The release date has already been announced, and it’s on August 15th 2012. In case you aren’t keeping track of the days this summer that is tomorrow! The news only gets better because Valve is asking absolutely nothing for this expansion. It is a free download for a free game. Everyone make sure to thank our best friend Valve tomorrow.
