Playstation Vita Fake Appears in China
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you crossed an Android phone with a Playstation Vita and a Nintendo 64? Well good news, you can stop wondering because China has got you covered, and it is called the Droid 360. This very peculiar device popped up, very suddenly, this week in Chinese listings. It is not uncommon for smaller Chinese companies to make copies of popular gadgets. Normally companies do this to make a quick buck off people who don’t have enough money for the original piece of hardware. However, what is abnormal about the Droid 360 is that it isn’t a terrible handheld system.
The device is very clearly mimicking the design of the Playstation Vita. Almost every detail of the system is identical to that of the Vita. It is obviously a forgery, but it is an impressive forgery nonetheless. What’s even more impressive, however, are the actual specs of the device. It uses the 4.0 Android operating system, the same OS that is seen in many non-Apple smartphones today, and it contains a 1.5 GHZ processor. It also includes 512 MB of RAM (same as the Vita) and 8GB of storage. It takes yet another note from the Playstation Vita by using front and rear cameras and a touch screen. The only noticeable difference from the Vita is the name displayed on the device, and the letters used on the face buttons.
The major issue with this device is, despite the name and appearance, it has no connection with Microsoft or Sony. Thus, the system has almost no backing when it comes to creating games. What they did instead is took advantage of the under-regulated classic games. The system comes with the capacity to play several ROMs of very nostalgic titles. This includes games such as Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros, Batman NES, and several others. It also is capable of playing Android games like Fruit Ninja.
It is unclear if Sony or any other company will take legal action, and if there is any real legal action that they can take. Yet if you are looking for a new phone that can also play some memorable games from your childhood, then you may want to swing down to China and pick up a Droid 360. I don’t imagine that this internet sensation in the making will last very long.
