Microsoft will not Attend Gamescon or Tokyo Game Show

Yes… it seems that the gaming juggernaut will not be attending two of the biggest gaming conventions this year. This was announced on a blog by Major Nelson, director of programming for Xbox Live, and with this announcement they released a bit of info about the upcoming plans for the Xbox.

This is what Nelso said on his blog, “As you saw at E3, we have a solid line-up of games launching this holiday, along with other entertainment experiences. We’ve changed our approach a little, though. This year, Xbox will be focusing on smaller, more localized promotions and experiences for press, partners, retailers and customers around the world. Which means that as you might have seen on some of the news sites today, we won’t be taking part in gamescom orTokyo Games Show this year. Both are still  important shows for the industry, and we do wish the organizers well.”

So at least it was a happy break up. It is not uncommon for Microsoft to be a no show at the Tokyo Game Show, since Japan is not too interested in their system, but they normally have some presence at Gamescon. This news also coincides with Nintendo announcing that they won’t be present at Gamescon as well. Looks like Sony has got that convention in the bag.
