Battleship: The Game: The Movie: The Video Game?

Inception took a whole new meaning as Battleship: The Video Game hit stores in Europe about a week ago. The game basses its plot around the upcoming movie Battleship, and even attempts to capture the action packed adventure as a first person shooter on the PS3 and Xbox360 with tactical commands like air sweeps and naval strikes. However the title essential has two different games since over on the Wii and 3DS ports they are having the game be more focused on controlling a naval fleet, most similar to modern turn based army titles such as Advanced Wars or Tom Clancy’s End War (DS), complete with its own specialized commander system. It’s hard to imagine any level of continuity between the original turn based strategy board-game and the modern first person shooter ports, even with having the movie as a crutch to bridge the gap the distance, since video-games based on movies are notorious for being sub-par. But like an alchemist trying to turn lead into gold, developer Double Helix Games is trying to break the laws of video game science by making a spot on video game with some intense graphics and some impressive teasers. And though it feels like this game may be one of the biggest destruction’s of a child-hood classic since Michael Bay announced the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie would feature adult alien ninjas, there is still quite a buzz for this title. They are already working on an American localization so hopefully our shores will have a chance to play the game after the movie’s release so as to stay spoiler free. Tentative release is May 15th, but until then let us know in the comments which port you’re most looking forward to.
